Questions You Might Be Pondering
Is There More to Life than This?
Without a doubt, God loves you! He loves you more than you can ever know. He knows all about you, all the best parts and all the darkest parts. And he still loves you.
‘But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.’ (Romans 5:8)
Jesus is the One and Only Son of God. He was more than a great moral teacher, more than a folk-hero to the poor. Though He is fully God, he became fully man, living among us at a real time in history. Historical and archeological evidence attests to him and his actions.
‘The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.’ (John 1:14)
God knew that you and I could not rescue ourselves. We could not fix what was broken in us, in creation and in the world. Surely one look at our world today, and even at our own lives, tells us that the problem is too big. So, in love, God sent his Son, Jesus, to come into the world. Did you get that? God, in the flesh, came into this world which he created. No other religion teaches an embodied deity who lowers themselves to walk among their creation and rescue them personally.
‘This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.’ (1 John 4:9)
Jesus did not have to die, but he chose to die. You see, no amount of right behavior, no amount of good deeds will repay the debt we have wracked up because of our misdeeds, or sin as the Bible calls it. There’s just no way. It would be like attempting to jump the Grand Canyon. Even the best and most moral among us, who could jump the farthest, would fall woefully short. So, Jesus did what we could not do for ourselves. He took on himself the penalty for your sins and mine. He paid our debt, in full, on the cross. And the best news: he did this freely as a gift to you and me.
‘For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.’ (John 3:16)
While God’s offer to rescue us from sin and restore us to relationship with himself through Jesus is a free gift, it is still a gift that you have to receive, personally. Without this step, it would be like a gift that sits unopened on the shelf; it’s there, but it has not yet been received. The way you receive this free gift is by surrendering your life to Jesus. That’s the difference between saved people and not-saved people: humility. Saved people realize they cannot rescue themselves but need a Rescuer, a Savior, who can do in them what they cannot do for themselves. Ready to begin this life with Jesus? You can pray to surrender your life to Him right now, using the prayer below.
Ready to Begin a Relationship with Jesus?
Pray this to God, from your heart:
God, I realize today that all my best efforts to fix myself and be a good person fall short. I have made more mistakes and have sinned more times than I can count. Thank you for sending your Son, Jesus, to rescue me so I might have relationship with you. I believe Jesus lived, died on the cross for my sins, and was resurrected from the dead and is seated on the throne in heaven. Today, Jesus, I surrender my life to you. God, I ask that you fill me with your Holy Spirit and transform my life with your power. Help me to follow you and walk with you every day for the rest of my life. Amen.
Take the Next Step: Baptism
Baptism is your visible “yes” to Jesus. It’s a visible and symbolic picture of surrendering your old life to God and being raised to new life in Jesus.
